In Webinar 4 of the Power and the People’s Health series, Patrick Harris will discuss how bureaucratic power has played out in the urban planning sector in Australia and what this means for the people’s health and health equity. Using examples from his research into urban planning in Sydney, Patrick will focus on the practice of ‘post-political’ urban planning. As the name suggests, post political planning removes politics from input into decisions about cities and urban infrastructures. The power of bureaucratic and technical expertise excludes less powerful but more politically diverse experiences with urban places and spaces. Patrick will offer evidence based and theory informed insights into making bureaucracies great again.
