Book release- Living Wage

RegNet is very excited to share the news that former Regnetter, Dr Shelley Marshall, has released her book ‘Living Wage: Regulatory Pathways to Living Wages for Precarious and Informal Workers in Global Supply Chains’ , published by Oxford University Press, along with its companion book Homeworking Women: A Gender Justice Perspective. The book has a wonderful forward by Professor John Braithwaite.

Here is a quick overview of Living Wage that you might share with others:

“60% of working people around the world today are in informal work which is unregulated and largely unorganised. In fact, as more and more people lose secure employment in both rich and poor countries, the informal workforce is growing. Of all workers worldwide, informal workers experience the most exploitative labour conditions, do not receive a living wage and have no recourse or remedy. ‘Living Wage’ proposes strategies to incrementally increase and enforce living wages against powerful players in supply chains as well as states that do not implement minimum wages that reflects the real cost of living . At the heart of the proposal is the dire need for an international labour law, which would ensure international cooperation in the face of a global problem. This is a bold proposal for addressing working poverty - one of the most pressing social justice issues of our time.”
