RegNet Director, Professor Sharon Friel, has been recognised by the Academy of Social Sciences and elected as a Social Science Fellow. ANU College of Asia and the Pacific colleagues Professor Tom Kompas and Emeritus Professor David Horner were also recognised by the Academy.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian Young AO congratulated the academics on their election.

“To be elected to the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia is a magnificent achievement,” Professor Young said.

“On behalf of the University, I congratulate Sharon, Tom and David for their well-earned recognition and for the work they have done here at ANU.”

Sharon said she was delighted to be recognised by her peers.

“Being part of the Academy provides another significant home in which to advocate for the importance of the social sciences in helping to address some of the 21st century challenges, including the stark inequities in health in Australia and globally, and the policy and governance challenges associated with this,” she said.

Sharon joins fellow Social Science Fellows in RegNet, John Altman, Valerie Braithwaite, Peter Drahos and Neil Gunningham.
