Congratulations to Gemma Carey on being awarded an NHMRC Early Career Fellowship in Public Health. During this four year Fellowship, Gemma will focus on the implementation of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

About the Fellowship project:

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides cover for Australians with a severe disability, and represents a transition to a new model and market for service delivery that will substantially change the nature, focus, and funding of disability support service delivery.

In public policy terms, the NDIS is a ‘monster of a government program’, set to cost $15 billion a year and supported by 8000 public servants. The study will examine the implementation of the NDIS by key policy actors, with particular attention to whether services are distributed evenly and effectively and how the NDIS responds to community need.
