Congratulations to Christian Downie and Darren Halpin from the ANU School of Politics and International Relations who have been awarded funding from the Climate Social Science Network for their project, Assessing the climate advocacy population in Australia.

About the project
If the newly elected Australian Government is to implement ambitious climate policies, it will have to overcome the opposition from incumbent fossil fuels industries. Its capacity to do so will be directly related to the balance of forces between actors in support or opposition to climate policy and their relative lobbying capabilities. However, to date scholars have yet to systematically map the actors that comprise the movement in support of action on climate change, or the actors that comprise the climate change counter movement and assess their capabilities. Accordingly, this project aims to assess the climate advocacy population in Australia.
