The Centre for International Governance and Justice (CIGJ) at the School of Regulation and Global Governance (RegNet) hosts a vibrant community of scholars dedicated to the study of complex and interconnected 21st century challenges.

Professor Hilary Charlesworth who has been the Centre Director since 2005 has stepped down from her role in November 2021 following her recent appointment as Judge to the United Nations’ International Court of Justice, and will be passing on the baton to Professor Anthea Roberts.

“I am delighted to see Anthea take the Centre in innovative and exciting directions. She will breathe new life into CIGJ’s sails and I will watch on with great interest and pride,” says Professor Charlesworth.

Drawing together a range of scholars at RegNet and beyond who are working on projects relating to global governance, conflict, violence, and complexity, CIGJ will be focusing on these main areas:

  • Navigating the Changing Zeitgeist (GEIST)
  • Methods for a Complex and Uncertain World (CUW)
  • Conflict, Violence and Justice (CVJ)

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Professor Charlesworth for her tireless, calm stewardship and support all these years and a warm welcome to Professor Roberts as she leads the Centre through the next exciting phase.
