Anthea Roberts named leading scholar in international law worldwide

Professor Anthea Roberts of the School of Regulation and Global Governance (ANU College of Asia and the Pacific) has been named as the leading scholar in the field of International Law worldwide, and in law Australia-wide, by The Australian newspaper.

Using Google Scholar citation data, and taking into account the quantity of articles produced and the quality of the journals in which they were published, The Australian identified the top scholars across Australia in various fields ranging from physics to law. The Australian then used the same methodology to show that a small number of Australian-based researchers were also the leading scholars in their fields when judged on a worldwide basis.

Professor Roberts examines how global governance is changing in light of the rise of Asia and shifting geopolitical and economic power. The same study by The Australian also found that fellow ANU College of Asia and the Pacific (CAP) academic, Professor Edward Aspinall, is the international leader in his field of Asian Studies & History, placing CAP at the forefront in these areas of research in the world.

ANU’s excellence in this regard underscores ANU’s important mission as both Australia’s national university and as a world leader in the study of the Asia Pacific region and its growing importance in and impact on the global system.

In addition to naming Professor Roberts as the top individual scholar in Australia in law and international law, the study also identified the ANU as the top institution in Australia in both fields.
