The Social Services Legislation Amendment (Cashless Debit Card) Bill 2017 looks to empower the Australian government to introduce the new Cashless Debit Card more broadly beyond the two trial regions of Ceduna in South Australia and parts of the East Kimberley in Western Australia; and to extend the scheme beyond the trial period that is due to end on 30 June 2018.

In this submission to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs, Professor Altman explains his concerns about such extension and expansion.
