Abidah Setyowati is a senior social development specialist working on social dimensions of climate change with The World Bank, with a PhD in human geography from Rutgers University – the State University of New Jersey. Her research focuses broadly on natural resources and climate governance, critical climate change studies, energy governance and access, climate finance, indigenous politics, forest tenure reform as well gender and social inclusion in these issues.

Prior to joining ANU RegNet, she was a postdoc fellow at Department of International Relations, ANU and a research associate at Environmental Change Institute, University of Oxford. She has also provided advisory works and carried out assignment with UNDP, UNEP, FAO, UNREDD, USAID, DFID and other multilateral agencies.

Her research has been supported by numerous grants and awards, such as APIP Research Development Award (2020-2021), APIP Research Excellence Award (2019-2020), the National Science Foundation – Dissertation Improvement Grant/NSF DDIG (2011-2013), UNDP Human Development Fellowship (2011-2013), Margaret McNamara Award (2013-2014), and Louise Bevier Dissertation Completion Fellowship (2013-2014) and Fulbright Fellowship.
