Sithong started his PhD at RegNet in February 2020. Before joining RegNet, he was the Deputy Director of Legal Division of the Bank of the Lao PDR, leading teams to develop banking regulatory framework.
Sithong has legal expertise in both private and public sectors. After being a senior legal advisor at a top private law firm in Laos, Sithong then moved to the other side of the wall by becoming a public policymaker on various areas covered under free trade agreements. He has received two Labor Medals from the Prime Minister and then from the Governor of the Bank of the Lao PDR for his outstanding contributions in the fulfillment of Lao accession requirements into the WTO membership and in the development of banking supervisory framework including the ASEAN financial service liberalization negotiations.
Apart from being with family and friends, Sithong spent some of his free time for bona fide work as contributor of legal articles for Lao national newspapers and magazines to raise legal literacy and provided lectures at the National University of Laos and the Lao Bar Association.
Coming from a “Khmu” ethnic group, an indigenous minority in Laos, Sithong has always valued the education as the only sustainable and peaceful solution for a better world.
