Binota is an indigenous (Jumma - Tripura) community member from the Chittagong Hill Tracts, Bangladesh. Before joining RegNet, he worked in the field of human rights and indigenous peoples’ rights national, Asia regional and international organizations. He led the project on the promotion of core international human rights treaties, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), and the applications of the UN Special Procedures, Treaty Monitoring Bodies and the Universal Periodic Review of the Human Rights Council. He is passionate about indigenous people’s issue, advocate and follower of issues that deal with the development of indigenous peoples’ empowerment.
His thesis will examine the impact of the Universal Periodic Review of the Human Rights Council, and how, if it has, contributed to promoting, protecting and respecting human rights of indigenous peoples. It will also identify opportunities and barriers of advancing indigenous peoples’ human rights.
