Call for contributions: Restorative horizons: Indigenous, plural and hybrid paths towards justice and peace
Scholars, practitioners and community leaders are invited to contribute to Restorative horizons: indigenous, plural and hybrid paths towards justice and peace, an international workshop jointly hosted by Addis Ababa University, The Australian National University and the European Forum for Restorative Justice.
Funded by the Balzan Foundation through the Balzan Prize awarded to RegNet's Distinguished Professor John Braithwaite, the workshop will be held in Addis Ababa from 25–27 November 2026. It will bring together diverse voices from across the Global North and South to explore the dynamic intersections between restorative justice and the many justice traditions that coexist within and beyond formal state systems.
Restorative Horizons seeks contributions that examine Indigenous, customary, spiritual and community-based approaches to justice, as well as hybrid and plural systems that reflect the lived realities of communities around the world. The workshop will explore how these approaches and systems contribute to pathways towards justice and peace. By fostering cross-contextual exchange, the workshop aims to bridge these divides and deepen mutual understanding of how justice is imagined and practiced across diverse settings.
The organisers welcome a wide range of submissions that encourage innovation and diverse ways of knowing and sharing, including workshop paper presentations with abstracts, poster presentation abstracts, skills labs or practice-based demonstrations, community circles and dialogues such as Gadaa or Oda dialogues, and creative or experiential formats that invite reflection and participation.
By bringing together academic research, practice wisdom and community knowledge, Restorative Horizons aims to foster meaningful exchange and collaborative learning across disciplines, cultures and traditions.
The submission deadline is 31 March 2026.
