Miranda Forsyth releases new “storymap” to show the drivers of sorcery accusation related violence

3rd November 2021

In today’s world it can be hard to understand how people can accuse others of being sorcerers - and even torture and kill those accused.

Associate professor Miranda Forsyth of CIGJ has just released a new storymap to help us to better understand sorcery accusation related violence. She portrays it as a wildfire that starts small, but can become a raging inferno, with sparks spreading to ignite fires elsewhere.

The storymap describes draws upon her research into the levels of harm and nature of the victims, as well as highlighting how such fires can be effectively fought, and ideally prevented. Please be warned that this is upsetting content and some of the photos are graphic in order to convey the extremity of the violence that is occurring.
