Give fathers more leave to narrow gender gap: Defence Minister
In a recent article written for The Canberra Times, Senator Reynolds, RegNet’s Belinda Townsend Deputy Director of the Menzies Centre for Health Governance and Ms Emma Walsh founder of Parents at work, talk about the importance of improving Australia’s parental leave scheme, so that women don’t have to abandon their careers because of choosing to have a family.
Belinda highlights that Australia has fallen behind other OECD countries in primary caregiver leave, dedicated father/partner leave and income replacement. She suggests that viable options include increasing the length of leave and government payments to Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development average, or increasing dedicated leave entitlements for fathers.
