This seminar is part of the Migration, Mobility & Movement Network Seminar Series presented by the School of Archaeology & Anthropology and The Migration Hub at the School of Regulation and Global Governance.

This research examines the key questions of “who migrates internationally and where do they go?” It resents a range of statistical data and draws upon the existing body of research on migration determinants and decision-making. Employing a novel analytical model drawing upon international migrant stock data and human development index data from 1995 to 2020, the research shows that some aspects of macroeconomic analyses are confirmed but, contrary to existing knowledge, there are differences in long-term migration patterns.

Marie McAuliffe is the head of Migration Research and editor of the World Migration Report at IOM in Geneva, and a visitor at the ANU School of Demography.
