This professional development session will reflect on and discuss the challenges of being an interdisciplinary scholar in disciplinary settings and developing interdisciplinary ‘fluency’.
This session will be focused on professional development, reflecting on and discussing the challenges of being an interdisciplinary scholar in disciplinary settings and developing interdisciplinary ‘fluency’.
Interdisciplinary approaches have great value and strengths. However, being interdisciplinary can also make it more difficult to communicate with scholars and professionals in more ‘disciplined’ fields. Applying for opportunities and operating within these more disciplinary settings is not always easy.
The session will reflect on the speaker’s own experiences of issues in trying to break into more disciplinary settings and discuss some tentative lessons learned on ways to approach these issues. It will then invite discussion from participants to help develop strategies for developing greater fluency and flexibility as interdisciplinary students and scholars.
This is a closed event for RegNet staff, visitors and students only.
