We are excited to announce that RegNet alumna Libby Salmon has been recognised for her outstanding PhD research, receiving one of the 2023 ANU Gender Institute Prizes for Excellence in Gender and Sexuality Research. The award honours research that has made an important contribution to the fields of gender, feminist perspectives and/or sexuality by an ANU student.

Libby’s thesis, Sharing human milk: challenging regulatory regimes for infant feeding in Australia explores the regulatory challenges surrounding human milk sharing and its implications for public health nutrition.

The award committee commends Libby Salmon’s research for its theoretical advancement of nodal governance and regulatory regimes based on an original empirical analysis of milk-sharing in Australia. Her findings are backed by nuanced analysis of data gathered through careful and methodical field work involving mothers who shared milk, health professional, milk banks and policymakers. As one of her examiners remarked that the ‘the depth and subtlety’ of her analysis is exemplary.

We are delighted to celebrate Libby's outstanding achievement. Well done, Libby!
