We are delighted to announce the academic promotions of two outstanding RegNet scholars at the Australian National University, effective 1 January 2025.

Professor Downie, a political scientist with expertise in energy politics, climate policy and foreign affairs, has worked as an advisor to several Australian Government agencies. Most recently, he served as Principal Advisor on secondment in the Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water, and before that in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. With over 40 peer-reviewed publications, his latest book, Business Battles in the U.S. Energy Sector: Lessons for a Clean Energy Transition, offers valuable insights into advancing clean energy solutions.

Dr Marshall, a practising lawyer and leading legal scholar, specialises in Aboriginal water rights, native title rights in Sea Country, Indigenous governance and the intersection of Traditional Knowledge systems and western intellectual property regimes, particularly in Indigenous commercialisation of traditional medicines. Her doctoral thesis, A Web of Aboriginal Water Rights: Examining the competing Aboriginal claim for water property rights and interests in Australia, won the 2015 WEH Stanner Award and was published by AIATSIS Aboriginal Studies Press as Overturning Aqua nullius, recognised as a seminal publication.

Congratulations to Professor Downie and Dr Marshall on their remarkable achievements!
