PhD writing retreat at ANU Kioloa Coastal Campus

RegNet

Exciting March for PhD students at the School of Regulation and Global Governance (RegNet)! With the support of the School, we were able to organise a writing retreat at the ANU Kioloa Coastal Campus from 26 to 29 March 2024. Eight of us got together and drove down to the coast on Tuesday morning and came back just in time for the Easter break.

The ride was fun, full of chats, great music and beautiful sceneries. Once at Kioloa, we met Shane Paul, the Kioloa Coastal Campus Site Officer, who gave an introduction to the dos and don'ts especially when at the beach, so we could keep each other safe. While we worked, we were kept company by dozens of grey kangaroos, wallabies and native birds on the beautiful campgrounds, and stingrays in the ocean. Together, we ate good food, swam together, caught sunrises and sunsets, and laughed around the campfire under the stars.

Kioloa is a special place, made a treasure by each other’s company, nature, and the wonderful staff who were always there to provide support and also encouragement to just ‘be’. It really was a perfect place for busy PhD minds to slow down and reclaim some mental clarity. We can call it a very successful first HDR student retreat for RegNet, and we very much look forward to organising the next!
