Job opportunity: Research Fellow at Migration Hub

The Migration Hub seeks to provide the Asia-Pacific region with a world-leading venue for research and informed debate regarding human migration and mobility. The Hub is located within the School of Regulation and Global Governance (RegNet), part of the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific. 

We are seeking a Research Fellow to make research, teaching and service contributions to the School, College and University, particularly in relation to the Professor Alan Gamlen’s four-year Future Fellowship research program, and to help drive the establishment of the Migration Hub. The Future Fellowship program is entitled ‘Mobility Shocks’, and focuses on the disruptions to human migration and mobility caused by the Covid-19 Pandemic.

This role will work closely with Professor Gamlen and the Hub team. You will be responsible for compiling the latest Australian migration data from a range of sources and analysing it using statistical and methods, to make the findings of the ‘Mobility Shocks’ project accessible and interpretable for a range of audiences. You will coordinate an annual course on migration, including all teaching, assessment and student support responsibilities.

Our ideal candidate

As our ideal candidate you will have a PhD in Social Sciences or a cognate discipline, with advanced quantitative research skills. You will have published peer-reviewed research on topics related to human migration, mobility and/or population movement. You will have experience working as part of a research team, as well as leading independent research and attracting research funding. You will be an experienced user of national and/or international datasets on human mobility. You will be able to collect and analyse large datasets as part of specific research project, and also show the potential to manage data systems and be a custodian of datasets from multiple projects across the Migration Hub.
