This ARC Discovery Project (2013-2015) will develop a systems-based conceptual framework for assessing the wider societal impacts of free trade agreements, with a focus on food and nutrition, and will provide the first empirical evidence that quantifies the potential diet-related health effects of an FTA. It will provide policymakers and other key stakeholders with guidance on ways to strengthen cross-sectoral capacity to develop trade policy that integrates economic, social and health goals. The focus is on the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement currently under-negotiation.
The latest part of the TPP to be leaked is its investment chapter. And like almost everything we know about the secretive negotiations for the agreement, it provides plenty of cause for concern.
