Petrina Schiavi is a sociologist and a lawyer who joined RegNet as a research associate in October 2008. Her research looks at the role and influence of large corporations in global climate change governance. Petrina holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons)(Sociology) and a Bachelor of Laws from The University of Queensland. She practiced law for several years, gaining experience in both government roles and in private practice. Her most recent position was as business development lawyer for the environment and planning practice of a large national law firm. She has also worked as a researcher for the Queensland Department of Justice, and has undertakenconsultancy work for NGOs and mining corporations. Petrina undertook her doctoral studies at The University of Queensland through the School of Social Science and the Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining. Her PhD research explored the significance of trust to the regulation of the social and environmental performance of large mining corporations. Petrina has ongoing research interests in: the regulation of the social and environmental performance of large corporations; the relationship between trust and regulation; environmental sociology; the sociology of law; and the study of discourses.
