Background

Mary Ivec has been seconded to RegNet from FaCSIA (Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs for 12 months) to work on the Capacity Building in Child Protection Project with Nathan Harris and Valerie Braithwaite. The secondment will enable a satellite project which will focus on Indigenous families and communities. Her secondment with RegNet will assist FaCSIA to develop its knowledge of cutting edge research in responsive regulation, which is an emerging approach in child protection.

Mary has worked in Research and Evaluation areas within FaCSIA since 2000, most recently working on the Longitudinal Study of Indigenous Children. Mary’s background is in social work with a Masters of Social Policy and Planning through Charles Sturt University. Her passion and long term work has been in the areas of community development and trauma counselling, especially with refugee communities. Mary has lectured and tutored in social work, is an accredited family dispute resolution practitioner and maintains a small clinical practice. Mary has two boys aged 3 and 4 ½ years and two step-children, aged 24 and 26.
