Christian holds a Bachelor of Economics (social sciences) (Hons I) from the University of Sydney. He has taught political economy and international relations at the University of Sydney, University of New South Wales and the University of Chulalongkorn in Thailand.
Between 2006 and 2008 Christian worked as a research fellow at the Australia Institute in Canberra, where he published widely on economic and environmental issues. Much of this work received widespread coverage in the Australian print, radio and television media.
Christian's PhD is examining the approach of key state actors to compliance during international climate negotiations.
