Network Centres
Australian Centre for Environmental Law (ACEL) The Australian Centre for Environmental Law was established in 1991 to create a critical mass of environmental law and policy expertise. Since its inception, ACEL has established itself as the leading centre for environmental law and policy teaching and research in Australia. ACEL offers a comprehensive program of postgraduate study in areas ranging from biodiversity to water, environmental planning and impact assessment to effective business regulation and enforcement. The program's teachers include many of Australia's most prominent environmental lawyers. Australian National Centre for Audit and Assurance Research (ANCAAR) The Australian National Centre for Audit and Assurance Research (ANCAAR) has been established to provide a focus for world class research and the ongoing development of auditing and assurance research as a research discipline and a field of professional practice. Australian Centre for Regulatory Economics (ACORE) ACORE is a world class centre which aims to increase the knowledge in regulatory economics in Australia both through an innovative training program and a systematic research effort. Centre for Commercial Law (CCL) This Centre's research specialises in emerging commercial law areas, particularly corporatisation, privatisation, government contracting, globalisation and international aspects of commercial law. Research and projects undertaken at the Centre also covers the 'traditional' areas of commercial practice such as bankruptcy and insolvency, companies, securities, contracts, equity, intellectual property, personal property securities, trade practices and taxation. Centre for Democratic Institutions (CDI) CDI responds to the needs of developing countries in the field of good governance and democratic institutions. The centre was established as an Australian Government initiative and receives its core funding through the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID). Its geographic focus is the Asia-Pacific region. Centre for Health Stewardship (CHS) This Centre has been formally created by the Dean within the ANU Medical School, with the support of the Vice-Chancellor and the ANU Medical School Executive. The Centre facilitates links between academics and the health system to improve our understanding of how the health systems are governed, and the relations between this governance and the health of the community. Centre for International and Public Law (CIPL) The Centre for International and Public Law (CIPL) is part of the Law Faculty at the Australian National University. It was established in 1990 with an objective to focus and develop its areas of expertise on the relationship between governments, and between governments and their citizens, from both a domestic and international perspective. CIPL organises intensive teaching programs for both government and non-government organisations in human rights law and other areas of international and public law. Centre for Law and Economics (CLE) The Centre has been established to become a Trans-Tasman centre of excellence in the application of economic analysis to law in Australia and New Zealand. All Government policy, whether taxation expenditure or pure property rights regulation, involves laws enacted by Parliament or courts. Given its dual base in Canberra and Wellington, the centre's primary focus is upon public law in the three primary areas of: 1) social policy, law, finance and management (including welfare, superannuation, health, education, employment and family policy); 2) public policy, law, finance, and management; and 3) competition law and regulation.

AustraliaSocio-Legal Research Centre, Griffith University The Socio-Legal Research Centre investigates the origins, operations and effects of legal regimes, policies and practices. Centre for Regulatory Studies, Monash University The Monash Centre for Regulatory Studies was established to provide a better understanding of the nature, extent and implications of the contemporary regulatory environment.
OverseasIn response to growing concerns about understanding the impact of regulation on consumers, business, and government, the American Enterprise Institute and the Brookings Institution established the AEI-Brookings Joint Center for Regulatory Studies. The primary purpose of the Joint Center is to hold lawmakers and regulators accountable for their decisions by providing thoughtful, objective analyses of existing regulatory programs and new regulatory proposals. Centre for Analysis of Risk and Regulation, The London School of Economics and Political Science The ESRC Centre for Analysis of Risk and Regulation (CARR) is an interdisciplinary research centre at LSE. Our core intellectual work focuses on the organisational and institutional settings for risk management and regulatory practices. Centre for Business Research, University of Cambridge The Centre for Business Research (CBR) is an independent research institution within the University of Cambridge. It began originally as the Small Business Research Centre, and to this day, the study of smaller enterprises remains a key area of research. In October 1994, after obtaining core funding from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), it was relaunched as the CBR. Center for the Study of Law and Society, University of California, Berkeley The central mission of the Center for the Study of Law and Society is to facilitate interdisciplinary discussion and research by faculty from the Berkeley campus and throughout the world. Centre for Socio-Legal Studies, University of Oxford The Centre consists of a group of scholars and researchers from complementary backgrounds in the law and social sciences with a view to generating new insights and practical direction on both enduring and cutting edge issues. International Sociological Association Research Committee on Sociology of Law The Research Committee on Sociology of Law (RCSL) acts as a free association of scholars active in sociology of law or socio-legal studies all around the world, whatever their nationality, opinion and scientific or methodological tendency. The Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government is dedicated to advancing the state of knowledge and policy concerning some of society's most challenging problems at the interface of business and government. The scope of its work ranges from the local to the global levels. Oņati International Institute for the Sociology of Law The International Sociological Organisation's Research Committee on the Sociology of Law and the Government of the Basque Country established the International Institute for the Sociology of Law in Oņati, Gipuzkoa. The IISL offers as one of its core activities the possibility to organise over two/three days workshops that intend to have such an inter-disciplinary and inter-cultural character to discuss subjects related to the Sociology of Law. The papers presented are published as part of the Institute's book series after a rigorous peer review. The decision on the number and topics of workshops is made by the Scientific Director, assisted by a committee of the Governing Board. Politics of Regulation Network This network aims to create another locus of disciplinary and interdisciplinary exchange in which political scientists who are specializing in public administration, public policy, political economy and international political economy can meet each other to discuss the new features of governance through regulation and their new challenges for maintaining public interest. At the same time the network is a bridge between institutional theory of governance and the literature of regulation. In doing so, the aim is to bring insights from studies of regulation from the social sciences at large and particularly from the sub--disciplines of Law and Society, Law and Economics. Socio-Legal Studies Association The SLSA is a forum for socio-legal scholars in the UK and elsewhere to come together and share interests and exchange ideas. The American Bar Foundation is an independent, nonprofit national research institute committed to objective empirical research on law and legal institutions. The Foundation's work is supported by the American Bar Endowment, by The Fellows of the American Bar Foundation, and by grants for particular research projects from private foundations and government agencies. The Baldy Center for Law and Social Policy, University at Buffalo Law School The Baldy Center is an internationally recognized institute that supports the interdisciplinary study of law and legal institutions. The Baldy Center and Blackwell Publishing jointly own the quarterly journal, Law & Policy. The European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR) Standing Group on Regulatory Governance The study of regulation and regulatory governance is attracting an increasing attention in the field of political science. The standing group was founded in March 2005 by David Levi-Faur, University of Haifa and Australian National University, and Jacint Jordana, Pompeu Fabra University. The group provides a platform and infrastructure for encouraging studies in this area and the creation of an institutional arena for mutual interaction and debate. The aim is to bring together a broad range of scholars working on (various aspects) of 'regulatory governance' in all parts of the world, including scholars from fields such as law, economics, sociology, criminology, (social) psychology and history for a fruitful exchange of ideas and knowledge on regulatory governance. However, as a Standing Group of the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR), the main focus of the group will be on the political aspects of regulation.
