Bridget is a sociology master’s student visiting from the University of Waterloo. She holds an Honours degree in Sociology with a minor in Health Studies from Dalhousie University, where she won the University Medal in Sociology. Her SSHRC-funded master’s research focuses on how queer- and trans-identified individuals who have experienced mental illness relate to biomedicalized framings of mental illness in the context of identity construction. Her project also explores some of the barriers to affirming mental health care that are often encountered by members of this population, and the ways that those barriers function as a form of hetero- and gender normative governance. Bridget has also worked as a research assistant on a wide range projects in the fields of medical sociology and bioethics.
