Savitri Gurung is a PhD candidate under the supervision of Sharon Friel and is a 2013 recipient of an Australian Leadership Award. She is an Occupational Therapist with a Masters Degree in Public Health (Health Behaviour). For the last eight years in Nepal, she has worked in progressive positions from district to central with the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GIZ) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) in close coordination with the Ministry of Health and Population and other state and non-state actors.

For her PhD, she is researching the changing patterns of inequities in health care utilisation and health outcomes in Nepal from 2002- 2012. Her research assesses the health system and wider social barriers to health care utilisation among different social groups, and investigates how the Nepali health sector reform strategy contributed, or not, to improved and more equitable health care use.
