On 17th and 18th September, the Centre for International Governance and Justice, with the support of the Australian Civil-Military Centre, hosted the sixth of a series of expert workshops on the Security Council’s activity in the arenas of peacekeeping, sanctions and force. All five workshops have been conducted under the auspices of the ‘Strengthening the Rule of Law through the United Nations Security Council’ project. The project explores the potential of the rule of law to guide and support UNSC decision-making and practice.
Among the many eminent presenters at the workshop were Colin Keating, founder of the Security Council Report in New York and former Security Council president as New Zealand’s Ambassador to the United Nations, and Executive Director of the Security Council Report’s Bruno Stagno Ugarte, who has served as Costa Rica’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations. >>more
