In July this year, Professor John Braithwaite and Ms Kate Macfarlane spent two weeks in South Africa conducting fieldwork for the ‘Peacebuilding Compared’ project. The project aims to identify the most successful elements of peacebuilding initiatives from around the world. Professor Braithwaite and Ms Macfarlane spoke to police officers with experience in the Sudan peacekeeping operation, and also to South Africans involved in the apartheid struggles.
On the 26th July, Professor Braithwaite gave the Vice Chancellor’s Open Lecture at the University of Cape Town on the topic ‘Restorative justice: Republican vision & justice as a better future.’
