Val Braithwaite on motivational postures and regulatory system success

In this video, RegNet’s Professor Val Braithwaite discusses how regulation permeates our everyday lives. Taking tax compliance as an example, Val explains the different ‘motivational postures’ people may take in response to regulatory systems and explains why disengagement and game-playing are two responses which need to be taken seriously by regulatory authorities.

Valerie Braithwaite is an interdisciplinary social scientist with a disciplinary background in psychology. Currently, Valerie holds a professorial appointment at RegNet where she studies psychological processes in regulation and governance. She regularly runs workshops and provides briefings on the adoption of responsive regulatory models by government agencies.
