Sharon Friel

Professor Sharon Friel is Professor of Health Equity and Director of the Menzies Centre for Health Governance at the School of Regulation and Global Governance (RegNet). She was Director of RegNet from 2014-2019. Sharon is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Sciences.

Professor Friel and her fellow panelists were given the task of discussing ‘food for the future’ to a delegation of Future Shapers. Coming from a range of backgrounds, the panel shared their views, advice and insights for influencing change and covering issues of food waste, sustainability, production, etc. Professor Friel highlighted the complications of policy, regulation and governance of globalised food supply chains and noted that we should be asking “Who and what shapes policy?” around these food industries.
