This session aims to demystify the book manuscript development process, addressing issues that new authors and early career academics face.

What are the challenges and strategies for preparing a book manuscript based on your PhD thesis? How do you secure a book contract? When do you approach publishers? What publishers will provide the best outlets for your work?

To answer these questions, the session proceeds in two parts. First, Liz Bluff reflects on how she revised her thesis into a book, how she secured a contract from a publisher, and what insight we can gain from her reflections.

The second part opens the discussion to consider others’ recent experiences, paying particularly attention to how they can vary across disciplines and fields of study. Sample proposals are also available to review.
